Trafford Centre for Independent Living

Trafford Council has opened a new Centre for Independent Living to support Trafford residents with information, advocacy and brokerage services.

The following video below has further information on the new Trafford Centre for Independent Living:

Breakthrough has been commissioned by Trafford Council to support the set up of a new Centre for Independent Living, (CIL) which will be based at the St Giles Centre. By liaising with disabled and deaf people in Trafford, an Interim Governing Body was set up and led by Jonathan Fletcher and the following staff are in place to drive the initiative forward, Caroline Savage Strategic Development Manager; Gary Timperley Admin and Finance Manager; Sue Hopwood and Judy Sutherland Advocacy Workers; Charlotte Roberts our Independent Broker and Geoffrey Chew our Caretaker.

The Enterprise will develop and build on the capacity of local disabled people to contribute to the work we do. Personalisation is at the heart of the development of the CIL, which will empower disabled people to live independently and access service they want. One key strength of the project is the inclusion of the deaf community, and additional services including Advocacy, Brokerage and Information.

The CIL is supported by Breakthrough to develop its systems prior to its independence in the Autumn of 2011.

Jonathan Fletcher said regarding the new CIL:

“This is a very exciting opportunity for all disabled and deaf people to become involved in managing their own future. I ask all disabled people in Trafford to step forward and join us in this exciting and unique venture. We are greatly indebted to Breakthrough to giving us an excellent start to this project”
